Pergolas
Pergolas are a great way to make your outdoor spaces even more practical. Sun protection in summer. Rain protection in winter. Wind protection all year round.

Batten top
Pergolas come in many shapes and sizes and are particularly useful in Wellington for protection from the wind.
The roof of the pergola can take on different forms to suit your desired purpose and aesthetic.
Batten top pergolas are very popular amongst Kiwi homeowners. They create lineal sun shade because of the gaps between the battens (thin, smooth battens of timber).
When positioned just right, they can filter the hot midday sun, or entirely prevent the low evening sun from streaming into your home and fading furniture.
The battens can be spaced closer together or further apart to suit.
Open top
Open top pergolas play a more subtle role in filtering sunlight.
They serve as a perfect frame for outdoor lighting, climbing plants or hanging pots.
Their main purpose, however, is to define different areas or zones within an outdoor space. Highlight a hot tub, frame a lounging space, showcase an alfresco dining spot or separate a kids play area from the entertaining spaces.
Clear top
When the purpose of a pergola is to act as an extension of the house, it’s a good idea to consider introducing semi weatherproof elements, such as covered roofing or walls.
We use an advanced polycarbonate glazing system to create a modern, flat ‘glass’ like ceiling. Polycarbonate is safer and more durable than glass, making it the perfect rain proofing addition for pergolas.
Polycarbonate comes in clear or tinted, flat or corrugated variations.
Wind and sun screens
Canvas screens are another way to improve the weatherproofing properties of your pergola (see also ‘clear top’ pergolas).
The great thing about operable canvas screens is that they’re entirely optional - have them up, down or part way to achieve as much or as little weatherproofing as you like.
Homeowners in Wellington’s high wind zones find respite from the prevailing wind by installing canvas screens on the north and west facing sides of the pergola. We use screens that are durable enough to withstand very strong winds.
Screens are also great for creating privacy around spa pool, hot tub, dining or lounging areas.
